Indiana GM plant chemical blast kills 1, injures 5

Explosion Reported At GM Plant In Indiana


MARION (July 1, 2014) – One person was killed and multiple others were taken to the hospital following a chemical spill and explosion at the GM metal stamping plant in Marion Tuesday afternoon.
All employees were ordered to evacuate, according to security officials at the facility, around 2 p.m.
Tanks containing chlorine dioxide exploded in the northeast corner of the building.
The explosion killed 48-year-old James Gibson and sent five others to the Marion Hospital emergency room with non-life threatening injuries.  Three others refused treatment on the scene.
